Vernis intumescent appliqué sur du bois

Fireproofing products for wood

Fireproofing wood is a technique that involves spraying or dipping wood with a chemical primer to protect it from fire. The substance applied will reduce the flammability of the wood by delaying combustion, thus totally modifying its reaction to fire. In fact, when it comes into contact with flames and heat, wood is difficult to ignite and produces little smoke. In the event of a fire, this makes it easier to extinguish the blaze and rescue people from the burning structure.

Intumescent varnish for fireproofing wood

One particularly effective solution for fireproofing wood are intumescent paint or intumescent varnish. They provide passive protection against fire hazards, both in terms of strength and reaction to fire. If the wood to which the intumescent varnish is applied is subjected to the heat generated by the fire, the product will swell and form a microporous foam known as a “meringue”, delaying the wood’s temperature rise and limiting the spread of the fire.
